That’s when our spending got really out of hand, even though we traveled relatively frugally. Three days after the wedding, we flew across the world to New Zealand for a five week honeymoon. Her parents flew up and helped her drive back to Texas to tie up the final wedding details. Becca stopped working completely at the end of September. I worked through the end of October in Idaho. Of course our parents covered most of the burden, but we carried $13k of that on our shoulders alone. Call it $40k if you include literally everything that went into it from the time we got engaged to the day we said our vows. Little by little, we worked our way into a $35,000 wedding weekend. We chose the three meat barbecue package instead of two (from Green Mesquite – highly recommend).
